On Friday, police arrested Robert Lorenzo Hester Jr, 25, after he was accused of devising a plan to carry out an ISIS-style terror attack on Kansas City. FBI agents had been performing surveillance on the army veteran from Columbia, Missouri, since August 2016. They had become concerned after discovering social media accounts on which Hester Jr professed his hatred of the United States of America, and said that he had converted to Islam.
Robert Lorenzo Hester Jr, who is married with two children, had allegedly exchanged text messages with FBI agents who were posing undercover as terrorists, speaking of his desire for a “global jihad” and to co-ordinate an attack significantly more damaging than the Boston marathon bombings.
The army veteran is alleged to have agreed to provide weapons and aid in the plotting of a major attack on public transport stations around Kansas City on Presidents’ Day.
