As tensions between the East and West continue to rise, President Trump has sent an armada to lie in wait near North Korean waters. During a visit to South Korea, US Vice President Mike Pence warned Pyongyang that the “era of strategic patience is over”.
In a show of strength, a fleet of US ships has been dispatched. However, Japanese media reports that Russian and Chinese ships will shadow their movements. Trump described his flotilla, which is led by the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson, as an “armada” and stated that it is “far more powerful than the aircraft carrier”.
North Korea have carried out five nuclear tests since 2006 and, over the Easter weekend, celebrated the “Day of the Sun” – the late Kim Il-sung’s 105th birthday – which saw a huge array of celebrations, soldiers and weaponry in Pyongyang.
