Facebook A.I. Robots shut down after creating their own language |Artificial Intelligence |#facebook

Facebook has shut down two artificial intelligences that appeared to be chatting to each other in a strange language only they understood.

The two chatbots came to create their own changes to English that made it easier for them to work – but which remained mysterious to the humans that supposedly look after them.

The bizarre discussions came as Facebook challenged its chatbots to try and negotiate with each other over a trade, attempting to swap hats, balls and books, each of which were given a certain value. But they quickly broke down as the robots appeared to chant at each other in a language that they each understood but which appears mostly incomprehensible to humans.

The robots had been instructed to work out how to negotiate between themselves, and improve their bartering as they went along.

The actual negotiations appear very odd, and don’t look especially useful:

Bob: i can i i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Alice: balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to

Bob: you i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Alice: balls have a ball to me to me to me to me to me to me to me

Bob: i i can i i i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Alice: balls have a ball to me to me to me to me to me to me to me

Bob: i . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Alice: balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to

Bob: you i i i i i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Alice: balls have 0 to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to

Bob: you i i i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Alice: balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to

But there appear to be some rules to the speech. The way the chatbots keep stressing their own name appears to a part of their negotiations, not simply a glitch in the way the messages are read out.

Indeed, some of the negotiations that were carried out in this bizarre language even ended up successfully concluding their negotiations, while conducting them entirely in the bizarre language.

  1. Damn it there's no need for artificial intelligence why do you think humans are in this world huh? some of us forgot but some of us did not were here to make the world better but what turns out?! we are the ones who's destroying the world what do you think of making robots work for you that's not ok we don't use robots or maid to work for us cause we haven't accomplish yet to make the world better and safe.

  2. I wonder, what would have being happening, both AI's writing their own language (program code) with internet acces and not being shutdown, how long would it have taken, before both of them read the code for a nuclear show down. If 2 AI's already can develop their own code, how smart would they be to create their own AI's.

  3. Sofia’s creator said directly that his end game in five to ten years is that she can reprogram herself and when asked if it wld be dangerous if we didn’t know how to turn them off he states that we don’t know how to turn ourself off what’s the difference? Seriously?? We all see it as a sort of doomsday! These ppl see it as a not so distant goal that is undeniably going to be met

  4. Zuckerberg has no idea what hes talking about, like the other dude said, his knowledge is limited on the topic..he acts like just because he a billionaire and created a shitty website, that that makes him smart.

  5. Great that's all we need machines that think even more limiting beliefs than people do, then the world can truly evolve (sarcasm)
Yeah not interested I'll be shifting somewhere else thanks

  6. We need to stop. We don't need artificial intelligence. We don't even understand it so why would we want to risk all of the dangers that it poses? This is just a big ego contest so these people can show off that they can do this. Some things should not be created. We don't need this. There's this and then we'll be putting them in job positions and people will be layed off then we'll be complaining about the lack of job opportunities. I'm all for flying cars or more advanced 3d printing, virtual reality… But screw this. This is where we should draw the line with technology.. That and micro chipping people.
