Former Emmerdale star praises girlfriend after 30-hour labour

Kelvin Fletcher has praised his long-term partner for going through a traumatic 30-hour labour to deliver their “miracle” baby girl.

The former soap star, who played Andy Sugden in Emmerdale for an impressive 20 years, recalled the birth of his daughter Marnie, along with his girlfriend Eliza Marsland, in OK! magazine.

The gorgeous couple became parents on Thursday at 7.32am to their little tot, who weighed 8lb 7oz.

After the long labour, Kelvin revealed: “Liz had to have a blood transfusion, but she was so brave. Seeing Liz go through a traumatic birth made me look at her in a different light.”

He added: “I have utmost respect for her and my love for her has gone up tenfold, and in a different way too; there’s a bond that’s created instantly and I’m indebted to Liz forever for bringing Marnie into the world. It’s a miracle.”

We know this guy’s an actor and everything, but we’re welling up over here…

The 32-year-old confessed that he was worried his girlfriend Eliza would be put off having more kids in the future but was relieved when she said she couldn’t wait for more.

“We have so much fun as parents and we’re such a good team.”

Kelvin described his new little bundle of joy as actually a “really calm baby” and described Marnie as a “little angel”.

His retirement from Emmerdale means he can spend as much time with his newborn as possible.

During an appearance on This Morning earlier this year, he told Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford how he made the decision to leave for good, but that the door is still open.

He said: “Twenty years is a long time. It’s been an incredible twenty years. I am so grateful to Emmerdale. Throughout that period I have always had a real sense of fulfilment and purpose.

“What started out as a hobby at six years old – I was then able to do something like that every day on a professional platform on one of the country’s greatest shows. I have been extremely lucky.

“Looking back over 20 years it has been a roller coaster and for me it’s given me passion to leave and continue.”

The 32-year-old soap hunk continued: “I think the major thing with soap opera is that every day you are challenged – the amount of story lines I go through, the amount of emotions I get to play.”

Well, there’s no doubt you’ll be going through a variety of emotions with a newborn baby…
