Grandma thinks boy’s imagination is running wild, then turns and sees a man having heart attack

When Carolyn Cook’s 6-year-old grandson, Karter Thorpe, told her that he saw a man lying on the ground in the Lowe’s parking lot that they were leaving, she didn’t believe him. When he asked her to turn around so they could help him, she wouldn’t. “Kids have an imagination to begin with, so at this point, I’m kinda ignoring it,” Carolyn admits. But Karter was insistent that she turn around, so, “to prove him wrong,” she turned around. And she is so thankful that she did.

When she turned back into the parking lot, she found a man lying on the ground, gasping for air.

Carolyn and Karter were in that Lowe’s parking lot by accident. Carolyn had just picked Karter up from school and missed her turn, so she used the lot as a means of getting back on track. While she was keeping an eye out for pedestrians and other cars backing out, Karter’s gaze was distracted by the hurt man.

According to Carolyn, he asked her to stop, but she wouldn’t. That was when he yelled, “No, you have to stop! He’s hurt, He’s hurt. You have to go back!” Startled by his outburst, she decided to turn back to show him that everything was okay. But it wasn’t.

When she saw the man lying on the ground struggling to catch his breath, she knew immediately that something was wrong. While another woman came over and resuscitated him, Carolyn called 911. The paramedics transported him to the local hospital, leaving Carolyn and Karter to wonder after the man’s health.

But then a week later, Carolyn received a private message from the man’s family. Apparently, the man had suffered a massive heart attack. According to his doctor, had Karter not spotted him and forced his grandma, or “Mimi,” to intervene, the man likely would have died. The family is forever grateful to Karter, and now calls him their “Little Angel.”

“I still get weepy. I’m just thankful. Thankful that God put me in that parking lot when he did,” Carolyn says. “He would not take no for answer. He was determined and I’m glad he was.”

The man’s family is so fortunate that Karter’s keen observation and determination convinced his grandmother to turn the car around. Had it not been for him, the man might not be alive today. To meet the little guy who proves that heroes come in all sizes, watch this video.
