Can anyone remember a world without IKEA? It really does seem like the world is better now that the Swedish furniture giant, which owns and operates 392 stores in 48 countries, is with us. Every trip to see them carries a similar excitement to that of a visit to a theme park and each and every person who steps inside the doors instantly becomes a hotshot interior designer. But it’s recently emerged that not only are IKEA excellent for low-cost, eco-friendly interior design, it turns out they’re also wonderful for all kinds of must-have fashion accessories.
How did we find this out exactly? It all started when expensive fashion brand Balenciaga released a new bag with a eye-popping price tag of $2,145. Social media users immediately recognised that it hilariously bore a striking resemblance to another bag: IKEA’s iconic Frakta tote bag, priced at 99 cents. Ever since then, people have been set on transforming the famous blue bag into every fashion accessory under the sun, from shoes to raincoats to thongs (yep, I’m not joking), it turns out there is no limit on what you can do with IKEA’s polypropylene tote bag.
