Yesterday, one of the United Kingdom’s most notorious serial killers passed away. Between 1963 and 1965, Ian Brady terrorised Greater Manchester alongside his girlfriend Myra Hindley, killing five children and burying four of them in Saddleworth Moor, earning him the nickname the “Moors Murderer”. Brady and Hindley were convicted for three of the murders in 1966, and although details have emerged since Brady’s incarceration, the body of 12-year-old Keith Bennett was never found.
Keith’s mother Winnie Johnson died of cancer in 2012 having never learned the location of her son’s body, but there could be new hope for police hoping to discover the final body of this heinous string of slayings. Myra Hindley died aged 69 of a suspected heart attack at West Suffolk Hospital in 2002, but love letters exchanged between the two murderers may help to find Keith Bennett’s body, more than 50 years after his disappearance.
