ISIS has become arguably the most immediately threatening force to the West in recent years, and the conundrum of how best to combat them has been widely debated in many Western countries – not least the United States of America.
The topic was hotly debated in the run up to last year’s Presidential election, with Donald Trump repeatedly casting former President Barack Obama as the unwitting architect of the rise of ISIS.
Reports have now emerged that a US-led coalition air strike was launched against an ISIS building in Mosul, which it is believed was being used as a military headquarters. The Ashur Hotel is set on the side of the River Tigris and US officials had identified it as a military base for ISIS, hence the operation that was carried out to target the building.
