Boy has his precious Pokemon card collection stolen from him, so cop replaces it with his own

Pokémon is a phenomenon that has been around for about twenty years. As a result, both older and younger generations can connect on the popular franchise and bond over all the merchandise it has to offer.

The was the case for one 26-year-old officer and a nine-year-old boy.

Bryce began his Pokémon card collection when he was six years old. He was first introduced to the series by his friends.

“They told me that Pokémon is a huge thing and they showed me their cards and gave me a few, and that’s how I started out my collection.”

Bryce keeps his prized collection in a binder to keep them organized and easily available for trading between friends.

But one day, when Bryce was walking to his friend’s house in his neighborhood to show off his collection, an unidentified kid stole his collection right from his hands and ran away.

Bryce couldn’t believe it. In a matter of seconds, his three-year-old collection was gone.

His mother called the cops, where Cleveland police officers James Grotenrath and Ken Kirk arrived to investigate.

With the help of neighborhood kids helping Bryce track down the boy who had stolen his collection, the police were able to recover Bryce’s binder; however, some of Bryce’s cards were still missing.

Officer James Grotenrath understood Bryce’s disappointment all too well.

“I grew up with Pokémon, I loved Pokémon as a kid, and I’d be heartbroken too if my cards were taken from me.”

So, when Officer Grotenrath’s shift ended, he went back to his house and dug through his closet where he found his old collection.

It was then that the 26-year old, two-year police veteran returned to Bryce’s house and surprised the boy with a special gift.

Officer Grotenrath gave Bryce his collection of Pokémon cards, as well as other cards he had tucked away.

One of the cards the officer gave away was a very rare Mew card.

“There’s only about 10 of these in the world… and I have one of them,” Bryce said, beaming with joy.

Officer Grotenrath was quite humble about his generosity.

“It’s a priceless item, but it’s better to see someone else smile and… it’s just happy to see a citizen smile instead of always frowning upon us and looking the other way.”

At the end of the day, this officer did more than his call to duty by turning this boy’s loss into an incredible gain. Now, Bryce is left with an impression of officers he’ll never forget.

“I think they’re really nice and they help out the world.”
