Cat named Pawfficer Donut to serve with police

Pawfficer Donut, a rescue kitten, has been officially sworn in as the newest member of Troy Police Department, Michigan.

The female kitten was asked to raise her right paw as she was officially sworn in after a successful interview, reported Michigan Live.

She was given to TPD by the Humane Society in Michigan and will now work in the police department’s feline unit.

“We are using social media to engage the public that we serve and to get the message out that police are human, too, and we want to show we have a side of us that is beyond law enforcement,” Chief Gary Mayer reportedly said.

The appointment of Pawfficer Donut comes after the first candidate, Badges, was discovered to have feline leukaemia, a deadly disease contagious to other cats.

The police said they were “distraught” by the news, and although Donut had been given the job, Badges would “always be our first pawfficer”.

The kitten will be used to help raise awareness for pet adoptions and rescues and interact with people in the community.
