Police have released footage of a brutal hit-and-run incident in which two pedestrians were run over by a car, leaving one paralyzed.
Chanelle Higgins, 30, is now in a wheelchair following the incident in south London’s West Norwood area on May 29. The two victims had been walking home from the Scandal nightclub in the early hours of the morning.
Scotland Yard has said it believes a dark grey BMW 3 Series mounted the curb as the occupants tried to flee an altercation further up the road.
“I’m now in a wheelchair. I can’t move my legs and I only have limited usage of my hands,” Higgins told PA.
“I have spent five whole months lying in a hospital bed, missing my children and wondering what type of future I will be able to have.”
She said she needed 24-hour care and her injuries meant she could not look after her children without help.
“I spend hours and hours thinking about who did this to me. What type of person could run someone over and leave them for dead? What kind of evil person could do that? I just can’t believe that the person is just living their life while I’m going through hell. It’s just not right,” she said.
The second unnamed victim is seen in the footage trying to help Higgins.
C Laura Travers of the Metropolitan Police called it “a shocking incident. These two women were simply on a night out to see friends and now their lives have changed completely.”
