The feud between I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here channel ITV and the owner of the jungle site has taken a dramatic turn.
Land owner Craig Parker, who already had a rocky relationship with the show after discussions of using the site in the future, had a bust up with an ITV security guard.
He also vandalised part of the set in Australia’s Dungay Creek, Queensland.
The 50-year-old was arrested after the incident earlier this month.
Craig was taken to court for common assault, but escaped a fine or custodial sentence. Instead he was ordered to stay out of trouble with the law for six months or he would be straight back in court.
Asked if he regretted breaking the window and confronting the security guard, Craig was quoted by The Sun saying: “[I’m] not sorry. It’s just frustrating. I’ve never had a criminal record, no drink driving. Nah, nothing. I did what I felt was right.
“It was somebody abusing their job. I just broke a glass window. That’s it.”
He added: “It was a joke really. I just went over to him and slapped him like that, and said wake up yourself big fella.
“You put 600 people on site, you’re going to get a few d***heads aren’t you?”
The tension started when ITV’s contract to rent his land was nearly up, and Craig was playing hardball over renewing it.
He is reportedly fed up with the show using the land, even though he is paid a huge fee for them doing so.
A source previously told The Sun: “The relationship between Craig and the bosses has badly broken down. He’s always found hosting the show on his land frustrating, but in the past has considered it worth the money they throw at him.
“But this year’s different. There have been lots of small squabbles in which he feels his opinions have been totally ignored.
“He is sick and tired of having the cast and crew there. He can pretty much name his price. But so far he is adamant he will not be changing his mind.”
Fortunately, a new deal was eventually signed meaning they have another three years.
